I love this picture of Annabeth. This outfit is the first outfit I bought when I found out I was having a girl (Savannah). It never really fit Savannah, she was too skinny for the pants. They always fell down. Clearly Annabeth does not have the same issue...

Art Car Parade!
At the beginning of May we went to the Art Car Parade!! For those of you not located in Houston, it is a huge parade of crazy cars. There was a bunny (see below), cleopatra's head, a giraffe, etc. I think you get the picture. The good news is it was not raining. However, it felt as if it was about a thousand degrees outside. Everyone was crowded under the overpasses just for some shade. All in all it was a fun outing that totally wore the kiddos out.
Did I mention the heat? Poor sweaty-headed baby!

Museum of Natural Science
I realize that I have been remiss with blogging lately. I had not even downloaded the pictures we have been taking for over a month. I won't give you the long list of excuses, I will just start at the beginning and work my way through what we have been doing for the last month or so. I will try to post every couple of days to catch everyone up on our comings and goings. We've had lots of fun outings, we traveled to Vail, CO, and have embraced the beginning of summer.
I'll start with an afternoon I took the girls to the Museum of Natural Science. It was a hot afternoon and we were in need of entertainment. So, we took ourselves to the dinosaur museum. The girls loved looking at the big skeletons, played in the chemistry exhibit, and wandered through the very lifelike African animal exhibit (seriously, it looked like a zoo where all the animals are totally still and behind glass - kind of freaky). We topped off the outing with soft-serve from the in-house McDonald's. All in all a very fun afternoon for everyone.
Evidently this is how you play in the chemistry exhibit when you are 12 months old...

Another Savannahism
Today Savannah and I were watching a show about the orchestra. The following conversation ensued:
Savannah: Where are my instruments?
Heather: You have to use your imagination because we don't have a tuba, honey.
Savannah: Where is it?
Heather: It is in your mind. Picture the instrument in your head and pretend to play it.
Savannah: Mama, there is not a picture on my head!
Nice.
In other news, we recently returned from a whirlwind trip to Colorado. I will give the gory details and post the photos soon.

Savannahisms
Savannah has changed her ways. Gone is the quiet child who rarely uttered much more than a single syllable. She is in full-force chatty mode these days. Some of the things she says are hilarious. I have not been good about recording these verbal gems. So, I will start sharing some of the funny things she says under the heading, "Savannahisms". Here is a recent one....
Scene: I enter the garage upon returning from the Rice walking/running track. We greet each other and Savannah tells me about the "help" she is giving Daddy whilst Annabeth naps. The following conversation ensues:
Savannah: Where's Mama going?
Me: I'm going to go inside and take a shower.
Savannah: How come?
Me: I just finished exercising and I'm dirty.
There is a long pause and a strange look crosses Savannah's face and then she pokes me in the lower abdomen.
Savannah: Is Mama wearing a diaper? Is Mama's diaper dirty? Diapers are for babies.
Me (laughing): No. How about this, I'm sweaty.
Savannah: Oh, OK.

Goofy Girls
We have decided we have two very goofy girls. Annabeth has decided the most hilarious thing in the world is to try to run away from Mama while holding some sort of contraband. I can always tell if she thinks something is not allowed by which gear she has kicked in at the moment. Savannah, on the other hand, says the funniest things. I never know what she is going to say. The other day she told us that Sophie, the dog, is cute. So I asked her if Ally is also cute. She looked at me like I was crazy and emphatically told me that no, Ally is not cute. I think it is because Savannah is equating cute with small, but who knows. Poor Ally.
Sean and I were lucky enough to get away to Fredericksburg last weekend. We had three nights without the kids. I had never left Annabeth overnight before and Savannah had only been left for two nights in the past. So, this was uncharted waters. It was wonderful. We loved every minute we had together. Once we hit the 48 hour mark, I did start to itch for my girls. However, I resisted and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Here's hoping we can get a weekend away again in the next 6 months or so. I think it was good for us.
Anyway, here are some pictures. I would hate to disappoint.

Yeah for Pajama Days!
Houston experienced a deluge over the last 24 hours or so. School is cancelled, people are blocked in their houses from flooding, people are working at home. Savannah's school was one of the schools to cancel class for today. So, we have been having a fun rainy day at home. We tried a new cookie recipe - and failed miserably. Thankfully Savannah is much more into the process than the outcome right now, so it was fun. We have played "get you girls" - where Mommy chases the girls around the "adult room" (the largest room we have). We have done our Jillian Michaels for the day. After awhile Savannah got Annabeth to follow her into the adult room and told me to stay out. She wanted to play with sister. Alone. (Cue music from heaven.) They have also wrestled. Lots of wrestling. Anyway, I know it isn't exciting, but it has been fun for us. I love days like this where the girls get to really bond. Here are some pictures of the wrestling - please note the pajamas on the girls. These were taken at about 1pm. Yeah for pajama days!
